Word Candy: Original (like our copywriting)

Updated: Aug 5, 2020

We're starting off our Word Candy blog series with a word we love. A word that represents The Copy Shop. A word that we use all the time: original.

The Oxford English Dictionary (or, the OED for everyone who loves an acronym) defines "original" as having a quality which proceeds from the direct exercise of one's own faculties, without imitation or dependence on others. Something is original when it has not been done before and when it is novel or fresh in character or style.

We believe in being original, whole-heartedly. As Scottish philosopher Thomas Carlyle stated: The merit of originality is not novelty; it is sincerity. We believe in that too. We don't innovate for innovation's sake, we create to make meaning out of the world, one word at a time.

Words that can be used as close approximations for original include: inventive, creative, imaginative, novel.

The word original defines us as a collective of copywriters. We have original thoughts. We write original blogs (like this one). We help clients with original copywriting for their websites, blogs, apps, pitch decks, in-bound and out-bound marketing, and more.
